Founded by musicians Laura Jurd, Corrie Dick and Elliot Galvin, Chaos brings together some of the UK's most open and diverse young improvisers, providing a platform for music that is innovative, honest and collaborative in nature. Home to a variety of ensembles of varying shapes and sizes, The Chaos Collective presents some of the most exciting, new music on the scene today.
With live performance as its primary intention, Chaos ensembles can be found performing regularly in London and elsewhere in the UK. As well as this, Chaos offers an educational programme which will be running in the near future, providing schools with an insight into the realms of improvised music and composition via workshops and performances.

Elliot Galvin has played the piano since the age of 6, instantly gravitating towards jazz for its freedom of expression. He has performed with a number of well-established musicians already, despite his age of only 20 years. He has also performed at a number of notable venues with his own trio (comprised of his own compositions), including The Vortex, where he was met with a glowing review.
He has a broad range of taste and ability, studying composition as well as jazz at Trinity College of music (where he received a scholarship to study). He has studied with Robert Saxton and Stephen Montague for composition. He cites his musical influences as Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Brad Mehldau, Paul Bley, György Ligeti and Igor Stravinsky, amongst others. He also takes influence from the artistic works of painters such as Mark Rothko and the poetry of Dylan Thomas.
Laura Jurd is a London based trumpet player, composer and jazz musician. A diverse musician, she plays and writes a wide variety of music, drawing upon classical, jazz and folk influences. Currently studying at Trinity College of Music, Laura has particular interests in improvisation and contemporary classical composition, studying with trumpet player Chris Batchelor and composer Issie Barratt. She was recently awarded the 2011 Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition.
As a trumpet player Laura can be found playing with a number of ensembles including the London Sound Painting Orchestra, Nu Civilisation Orchestra and the Elliot Galvin Group (EGG), as well as being director and manager of the Chaos Orchestra. She also leads her own ensembles which can be found playing jazz venues around London and the South East. Influenced by the likes of Stravinsky, Messiaen and Bartok as well as Miles Davis and the European improvised music scene, Laura is currently working with a string quartet and improvising musicians, in a project which combines elements of classical composition and improvisation.
Corrie Dick was born in Glasgow and began his musical career as a pianist, taking to the trumpet for some time before deciding that he was to be a drummer around 2005/6; he quickly became involved in inter-school jazz bands where he met like minded musicians. He was soon invited to join NYJOS, Paul Towndrow's Jazz Futures and Tommy Smith's Youth Jazz Orchestra, performing with guests such as Mike Walker, Iain Dixon and Ryan Quigley. It wasnt long before Corrie had his own bands (quartet and sextet) performing original material and in 2010 he recorded his debut album Scenes For Someone.
Jazzwise magazine recently named him One To Watch for 2011 and in the 2011 Scottish Jazz Awards Corrie received the Up and Coming Artist award. He is now based in London and is performing regularly with his bands including Pinwheel, a quartet comprised of trumpet, saxophone, piano and Corrie.
'Corrie is one of the most gifted drummers I've come across in recent years; he's well on his way to being a visionary both as a musician and composer. With such vibrance and air there is no doubt in my mind that he will soon assert himself as one of the finest contemporary percussionists on the UK scene.'- Will Vinson (New York Saxophonist)
